I am currently producing digital artwork, sculptural metalwork and other objects which reference functional forms, contemporary Japanese science-fiction, and historical Germanic, Scandinavian, and Yupik material cultures. Occasionally I accept functional metalwork commissions, but generally pursue my own ideas through a variety of media. As a contemporary artist, I am inspired by the work of various metalsmiths and numerous contemporary artists, particularly Kiki Smith or Juan Munoz. I am interested in creating new histories through an investigation of pseudo-scientific writing, fringe theorists, historical revisionism, and living history communities. I have found parallels between these “intellectual pursuits”, and the fine arts community. A thread of my personal history is sometimes interwoven with these concepts.
I frequently reference various types of historically functional composite objects, while pushing context into an unexpected place. Much like Munoz, I create objects which establish a type of narrative, albeit functioning within an odd theoretical rather than psychological realm. The dynamic interaction between object and context allows me to playfully explore ideas which provoke critical thought. I enjoy producing artwork that stimulates a rethinking of the accepted historical narrative. At the same time, I aim to create a portal through which time displacement occurs, one that links the aesthetic dimensions of our past and future.
