February 2011

Well, I'm in my new space now, and really producing quite a bit of new work. The studio is at the end of Mass Ave in downtown Indianapolis in the Circle City Industrial Complex. I've finished four new pieces in about one month, all gallery scale work. Right now I'm sketching for large scale public sculpture. I'm planning on producing one public piece every two months, and should, after a year and a half, have a nice public sculpture portfolio. It is pretty much impossible to pursue public sculpture RFQs without a good portfolio of large scale work, so, in order to go for those larger commissions I'll have to eat baloney sandwiches for a while as I build this portfolio. It is easy to get existing work like this into juried public sculpture exhibitions... but this is usually work on loan for a year or two, and it basically pays for materials and such. Once the portfolio is complete, I'll be able to pursue the large public sculpture and percent for art RFQs, and actually make it through the jurying process. I like the idea of making over a half a million per year. That is very attractive to me for some reason.
